As part of the TDM 2025 Symposium, a series of technical tours will be held on the final day of the conference (11th December), offering participants the opportunity to explore key transport initiatives and infrastructure projects in Sydney. Delegates will be able to select from four engaging tours during the registration process.
A 1–1.5 hour guided cycling tour of Sydney’s City Centre (route shown in the image to the left), showcasing recent improvements in active transport infrastructure, including new separated cycleways, intersection upgrades, and pedestrian-friendly streetscapes. The 7 km route follows the city centre cycleways with scenic tourist vistas, including a short uphill section along the Kent Street cycleway. Designed to be an easy ride with planned talking stops, this tour offers a close-up look at how Sydney is transforming its urban core to support sustainable mobility. Bicycles and helmets will be provided, and rain ponchos will be available in case of wet weather, ensuring a comfortable experience in all conditions.
A 3–3.5 hour guided cycling tour of Green Square (route shown on the image to the right), one of Australia’s largest and most ambitious urban renewal precincts, highlighting the integration of transport infrastructure, high-density development, and public realm enhancements. The tour will follow a 13 km route via Oxford and Bourke Street cycleways and is largely flat, making it an easy and enjoyable ride with planned stops for discussion and exploration. Participants will see first hand how active transport, green space, and urban design have been integrated into this rapidly growing inner-city area. Bicycles and helmets will be provided, and rain ponchos will be available in case of wet weather to ensure a safe and comfortable experience.
A guided tour of the Sydney Central Station redesign, proudly sponsored by Aurecon, offering exclusive behind-the-scenes access to one of Australia’s most significant and complex rail infrastructure upgrades. Participants will gain insight into the planning, engineering, and delivery of the project, including how heritage elements are being integrated with modern design to enhance passenger experience and capacity. Led by experts from Aurecon, this tour provides a unique opportunity to learn about the challenges and innovations shaping the future of Sydney’s busiest transport interchange.
Note that this tour has a maximum capacity limit of 30 patrons.
A guided visit to the Transport Management Centre (TMC), offering participants a rare opportunity to see how real-time traffic and public transport operations are coordinated across the state. The TMC is the central hub for managing incidents, congestion, special events, and network disruptions, using advanced technology and live data feeds to keep people and goods moving efficiently. During the tour, participants will gain insight into network control systems, incident response protocols, and integrated multimodal operations, as well as the role of the TMC in supporting strategic transport planning and resilience across New South Wales.
